Celebrating 20 years, Jersey style, the original Broadway sensation Jersey Boys returns to the road and comes to Walton Arts Center for five performances Nov. 27-29.
They were just four guys from Jersey, until they sang their very first note. They had a sound nobody had ever heard ... and the radio just couldn’t get enough of them. But while their harmonies were perfect on stage, off stage it was a different story – one that has made them an international sensation all over again.
The story of the four Italian immigrants takes place within a symbolic year but covers several decades of the quartet’s life. The story is told through “four seasons” each representing a different part of their career and each told by a different member of the group. Though the recollection of memories varies for each member, the conflicting memories provide irresistible momentum of the show. Toronto Star writes that the show “moves like a joyride in a stolen Cadillac.”
Since the show’s debut in 2005, Jersey Boys has accumulated several awards. In 2006, it won four Tony Awards®, including best musical, and the Broadway cast recording won the 2007 Grammy® for best musical show album. By the closing performance in January 2017, it had become the 12th longest running show in Broadway history.
The show features all their hits including “Sherry,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” “Oh What a Night,” “Walk Like a Man,” “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You,” “Beggin” and “Working My Way Back to You.” Audiences are sure to be singing along to all their favorite songbook classics.
