On Thursday, October 1, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art will welcome Bridges & Bams: A Community Mahjong Experience, an evening designed to bring people together through play, creativity and connection while raising awareness of Susan G. Komen’s mission and impact in the community.
Susan G. Komen is a Community Partner in Residence at Crystal Bridges, collaborating on programming that creates intentional spaces for community members and breast cancer survivors to connect, belong and heal.
Bridges & Bams marks the beginning of a series of experiences planned throughout the year as part of The Art of Healing, an initiative exploring the powerful intersection of art, community, connection and healing.
The event was created and will be hosted by Amy Joyce, a seven-year breast cancer survivor and Susan G. Komen Board Member for Arkansas and Oklahoma, in partnership with Rosie Davis at Crystal Bridges.
“Mahjong is inherently about gathering around a table, and that makes it a wonderful vehicle for connection,” said Joyce. “Bridges & Bams is about creating a beautiful, welcoming space where people can play, create new connections and experience the sense of belonging that comes from simply being together. That spirit is at the heart of what we hope to create through The Art of Healing.”
Bridges & Bams will take place from 5–8 p.m. on Thursday, October 1, in Crystal Bridges’ new Learning and Engagement Hub. The community experience coincides with the beginning of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and precedes Susan G. Komen’s MORE THAN PINK Walk, taking place October 24 at The Momentary in Bentonville.
