Henderson Engineers, a national building systems design firm, has earned the designation of Giga Guru as part of Walmart's Project Gigaton, an ambitious initiative to reduce, avoid or sequester 1 gigaton of greenhouse gas emissions from the retailer's supply chain and operations by 2030.

Walmart awards Giga Guru status to suppliers who demonstrate excellence in reducing emissions through goal setting, measurable actions, and documented results. Approximately 15% of Project Gigaton partners currently hold the designation from a pool of more than 5,000 participating companies.

"We’re honored to receive this recognition from Walmart as validation of the work we're doing to reduce emissions and create more sustainable outcomes in our operations year after year," said Tim Donckers, client sector executive at Henderson Engineers. "Few organizations have Walmart's scale and ability to advance environmental progress. We’re proud to be working in tandem with thousands of other organizations as part of Project Gigaton to create positive, lasting impact in communities nationwide."

Through its 2040 Climate Pledge, Henderson Engineers has committed to achieving net-zero carbon emissions across its business operations by 2040. To date, the firm has reduced its operational emissions by approximately 62% through initiatives that include on-site solar power generation and a companywide composting program. Henderson Engineers is also a signatory to the MEP 2040 Commitment, a pledge among mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design firms to achieve net zero carbon on projects by 2040. In 2025, 52% of the company's completed projects were fully electric, a more sustainable alternative to fossil-fuel systems.

"Earning Giga Guru status demonstrates that we're walking the walk when it comes to our commitment to being a sustainable and regenerative company," said Brian Alessi, sustainability director at Henderson Engineers. "Many Walmart suppliers who receive this distinction are consumer goods companies, so our selection highlights the important role that engineers and designers can play in meaningfully reducing carbon emissions."

Walmart is one of Henderson Engineers' longest-standing clients. The firm has provided engineering expertise for thousands of new store, renovation, and prototype design projects throughout the U.S. and internationally. This work spans a broad range of Walmart facilities including Supercenters, Neighborhood Markets, Fulfillment Centers, and Sam's Clubs.
