The City of Rogers will begin reconstruction of the intersection of JB Hunt Drive, Northgate Road, and Champions Drive, just south of the Walmart AMP, starting Monday, January 12. The project will require a full closure of the intersection for approximately 90 days. The timing of the closure was intentionally planned to coincide with the Walmart AMP’s off-season, minimizing impacts during major events while allowing the work to be completed efficiently.
The intersection is being rebuilt with a strong focus on pedestrian safety, traffic control, and long-term functionality, particularly during large AMP events.
Key improvements include:
- A raised intersection and new four-way stop, designed to manage traffic and give pedestrians clear priority.
- Narrowed crossing distances, creating a safer, more intuitive transition.
- Stamped concrete patterns to visually highlight the intersection, improve aesthetics, and alert drivers that they are entering a pedestrian-focused zone.
“These changes are about safety first,” said Lance Jobe, Deputy Director of Engineering. “By raising the intersection, slowing traffic, and clearly defining pedestrian space, we’re creating an environment that works better for people walking, driving, and for officers managing traffic during peak AMP events.”
Detour signs will be in place during construction, and drivers are encouraged to plan alternate routes and allow additional travel time while the closure is in effect. JB Hunt Drive, Northgate Road, and Champions Drive will be open to local traffic, just not at the intersection.
The City appreciates the public’s patience during construction and looks forward to delivering a safer, more functional intersection that supports future development and enhances the experience for residents and event patrons alike.
