A safer trail crossing and a friendly new mural are coming together in Rogers to improve safety and create a welcoming gateway for trail users. The City of Rogers will host a ribbon cutting ceremony for the 8th & Easy Street Tunnel on Wednesday, September 10, at 3:00 p.m. at the tunnel site. Mayor Greg Hines will offer remarks, followed by the official ribbon cutting.

The 8th & Easy Street Tunnel greatly improves safety where the Railyard Loop trail intersects with 8th Street, reducing pedestrian and vehicle conflicts at a busy crossing. It also supports Downtown revitalization by enhancing bicycle and pedestrian access. The project is part of the 17-mile Railyard Loop, which connects directly to the Razorback Greenway and Downtown Rogers. The tunnel project was designed by CEI Engineering and constructed by Crossland Heavy Construction.

The tunnel area is designed as a community rest stop with a bicycle fix-it station already in place. Future plans include improved landscaping, benches, and a water fountains to make the site an ideal stop for cyclists on longer rides.

“This project improves safety for our trail users while also creating a welcoming, creative gateway into downtown Rogers,” said Mayor Greg Hines.

Alongside the infrastructure improvements, the tunnel features a striking 120-foot mural by Rogers-based artist Erin Ashcraft. A lifelong Arkansan, Ashcraft’s murals are rooted in her connection to the natural world and can be found across communities throughout the state. Her design for the tunnel draws from the flora and fauna of Rogers’ parks and natural landscapes. On the west end, the words “Hey Neighbor” greet visitors from Bentonville and beyond, while the east end proudly displays “Rogers, AR.”

“I am especially drawn to public art’s ability to bring new life into communal spaces across Arkansas, reflecting local identity, history, and forward-facing values.” said Ashcraft. “This mural reflects both the local environment and the welcoming spirit of Rogers.”

“Art helps us connect with nature, inspire reflection, and strengthen community,” Said Kinya Christian, Arts and Culture Manager for the City of Rogers. “Public art transforms infrastructure into shared spaces that empower and inspire.”

Cyclists, trail users, and families are especially encouraged to join this celebration. All members of the public are welcome. The event will feature a ribbon cutting, comments from the Mayor, and an opportunity to explore the tunnel and mural, providing excellent photo and video opportunities.
