The Humane Society for Animals is collecting bids, reviewing quotes, and raising money for the remodel of their old facility to convert it into a transport hub. This facility will provide short term housing for shelter and rescued animals until they can be transported for adoption in other areas of the country.
Executive Director, Clay Morgan, shared the news that every shelter in Northwest Arkansas full, and intakes are at an "all time high" while adoptions are plummeting. “Our own adoption numbers at the Humane Society for Animals, Inc. are a fraction of past years, he continued. “The critical remodel of the transport hub cannot come soon enough as we are forced to send as many dogs out of state as possible immediately.” To handle the huge number of canine intakes, they have filled both buildings with dogs and are forced to turn dogs away until more space becomes available.

Recently Humane Society for Animals teamed up with a transport group named Central Arkansas Rescue Transport (CART), to help move dogs out of NWA to states that have space in shelters and better opportunities to find their forever homes. “When we connected with them, CART was transporting cats and kittens from overwhelmed areas of Arkansas to "No Kill" rescue groups in Minnesota, Ohio, Illinois and other locations, Morgan continued. “At this time, they had already sent nearly 400 cats out of Arkansas into wonderful forever families.”
At times the CART van has had a few spots to fill and some of these groups that CART is connected with accepts dogs. The Humane Society for Animals takes advantage of opportunities fill those missing slots with dogs...not just their dogs, but also dogs from overwhelmed rescue groups throughout NWA.

A renovated Transport Hub will more adequately allow shelters and rescues with approved cats and dogs to drop their animals at the Rogers facility as they await the day of the transport. “It is easier and more efficient for all to meet at a centralized location,” explained Morgan. “During the month of June, 15 dogs from the Humane Society for Animals were able to hitch rides with CART for a new beginning elsewhere,” he continued. CART has now moved 569 animals out of Arkansas, and you are invited to be a part of this life saving effort with your tax deductible contribution to The Humane Society for Animals.
