NWA Therapy Dogs Convene in Downtown Rogers

Published Thursday, March 2, 2023

Sir Edmund, a 7-year-old therapy dog, is throwing a party in Downtown Rogers and the community is invited. The lovable Anatolian Shepherd is hosting Let’s Paws for Love as part of his participation in the Pet Partners Pet of the Year contest. The friendly canine invited seven fellow therapy dogs, along with local pet businesses, children’s book authors, and everyone in Northwest Arkansas. The furry festivities are scheduled from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m., Saturday, March 4 at Rogers Experimental House, 121 W Walnut St. in Rogers.

The festivities include: free games and art activities for the kids, a Book Nook where local children’s authors will read aloud while children pet therapy dogs, and so much more! The event is free, and proceeds from the sales and donations will help Sir Edmond win the national contest and help therapy animal teams across Arkansas secure more educational resources.

Downtown Rogers Art on the Bricks (AOTB) is proud to sponsor the event which includes poster contest entries with art by local students. Sir Edmund’s person, Kelly Stockman, a paraprofessional with Rogers Public Schools, suggested a poster project to Elmwood art teacher Cheri Gideon. Gideon was enthusiastic about the opportunity to help students learn about the contributions therapy dogs make in our community. The result: more than 50 Elmwood students participated in a poster contest, and their artwork will be on exhibit at the Rogers Experimental House during this Saturday’s event, and in a second location during the March 9 Art on the Bricks Art Walk. The March AOTB theme is Youth Art Month.

The companionship of a therapy dog facilitates real chemical changes in the body of the patient. It has been proven that most patients with therapy dog experiences have lower stress levels, increased calmness and happiness, and are less likely to feel lonely or forgotten. Go around Northwest Arkansas to area schools, senior facilities, hospitals, and community events and you might see Sir Edmund, who is well known as a canine ready to help anyone put a smile on their face.

You can even follow the well-known therapy dog on his adventures helping patients and other folks who need a little tender loving care on his Facebook page at Sir Edmund the Therapy Dog. For more information visit Pet Partners Pet of the Year or Sir Edmund's personal fundraising page.
