Art on the Bricks Highlights Recovery Through Art

Published Friday, October 7, 2022

The October Art on the Bricks Art Walk highlights the significance that art can bring to individuals in recovery.  In dealing with “hurts, habits or hang-ups,” people are tasked with working through personal challenges as they move from struggling to wellness. Expressions of art can be therapeutic as an additional form of working through feelings, experiences, or healing.  Painting, poetry, drawing, photography, sculpting, dancing, music…all can be tools of “release” on a path to a healthier tomorrow. When words don’t come easily in areas such as grief, addiction, abuse, codependency, depression, anxiety, etc., creating art provides an outlet allowing individuals to process, communicate and heal.

Celebrate Recovery is an extension of Fellowship Bible Church of NWA and recognizes we all have issues that may be interfering with our fellowship with God and others. Spectra, a community of adult NWA Christian artists, is another extension of Fellowship that seeks to share personal story through their art. These teams will be coming together to share their heart for healing and art at Downtown Rogers Art on the Bricks Art Walk on Thursday, October 13. A collection of art by Spectra will be displayed at Marketing Main Street, 112 S St. in Rogers.. Also taking place is a silent auction to benefit Celebrate Recovery during the event.

Patrons will also want to spend some time in the garden across the street at Brick Lane Books, 113 S 2nd St., where they will enjoy some live music by some of the Celebrate Recovery musicians.

Downtown Rogers serves as the true cultural center of the city, with flagship museums, craft breweries, artfully preserved historic buildings, retail and event venues, and unique restaurants and bars hosting live music and a vibrant nightlife. A growing creative economy has organically gravitated to the welcoming community known as the Downtown district, contributing to an authentic creative culture. The public is invited to visit galleries and pop-up exhibits to view art and meet the artists. Twenty plus local businesses contribute to the evolving character of Rogers the second Thursday of every month showcasing original art, hosting live music, offering dance classes and exhibitions to highlight the talent of local, regional, and nationally recognized artists. The monthly event highlights a spirit of entrepreneurship that flows through our historic downtown offering a vibrant and diverse community with participation by area schools, Arkansas Public Theatre, and businesses hosting live music, performing arts, classes and interactive experiences that offer entertainment and educational opportunities.
