The Welcome Mat - Wrapping Up Welcoming Week with a Community Party

Published Thursday, September 15, 2022

The creative community and supporters of the arts are invited to a free party as we wrap up Welcoming Week 2022. The Welcome Mat is a free community party that invites newcomers and “old timers” of Northwest Arkansas to come together Saturday, September 17, 7:00 p.m. to midnight at the Rogers Experimental House, 121 W. Walnut St. in Rogers. The Rogers Experimental House is collaborating with artist, David Gomez, and The Pink Paloma Balloons in inviting the public to connect during an event that bring together artists, makers, business owners and members of the community as we work together to enhance the quality of life in Northwest Arkansas. This gathering brings together individuals who want to celebrate the richness of our blended community and celebrate the talents of creatives whether they have been here for many years or just recently arrived.

Participants are invited to make connections while enjoying music by DJ.810, food and libations, and art making with artist David Gomez' conceptual percussion painting sponsored by Pel-Freez Biologicals. Participants will also want to take selfies with the towering balloon art installation by The Pink Paloma, and experience the exhibition of art curated to showcase the works of newcomers to Northwest Arkansas.

Percussion Drumming – Jump into the Splash Zone! An interactive community event that explores the intersection of music and art under black lights. Participants are equipped with disposable coveralls, an artist canvas, paint covered buckets, and drumsticks. They will drum to music using drumsticks and buckets covered in paint. The wet paint is deflected and splashed on individual canvases to create images defined as percussion art. Gomez developed the technique to allow individuals to react to music and color while creating art and this party provides and experience with glow in the dark drumming fun.

Balloon Sculpture Photography Backdrop - The Pink Paloma is celebrating being a newcomer to NWA, and is in fact a transplant from Las Vegas! This talented artist is adding a towering splash of color to the Rogers Experimental House. The lighter than air structure provides a bit of a treasure hunt. Hidden Gems is the title of the installation that Artist and entrepreneur, Kisha Smith assembled to set the tone of the Art Walk. The balloons offer vibrant color with a welcoming party like atmosphere.
