The Dog Days of Summer is the theme for art during the 2nd Thursday art walk in Downtown Rogers. The Rogers-Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Rogers Art on the Bricks (AOTB) showcase the creative economy and the dozens of dog friendly businesses in the heart of the city. Thursday, August 12, the AOTB features pop-up locations with artists who create artwork including pet portraits, a dog fashion show and some paw tapping live music. A special collaboration with the Humane Society for Animals will treat the public to an opportunity to meet some special dogs who are eager to find their forever homes. 20 – 25 pop-up exhibits will feature art and artists that will appeal to art and animal lovers of all ages. The dog days of summer refer to the hot, sultry days of summer, a time marked by the rising of the constellation Canis Major which includes Sirius, the “Dog Star.” This period is associated with the hottest days of summer and heat, drought, sudden thunderstorms, lethargy, fever, mad dogs and bad luck. While the definition of dog days may not have you looking forward to the next few weeks of weather, the art inspired by summer in the Arkansas Ozarks is a bright spot to enjoy in historic downtown Rogers.
Summer offers opportunities to enjoy the Ozarks with our furry loved ones, but high temperatures require you take precautions to protect your pets from the heat. While we are outside enjoying swimming, hiking and running with our pets, it is important to keep in mind warm weather can be dangerous. During the August Art Walk, Humane Society for Animals will set at Into+View Art Gallery’s greenspace at 300 N 2nd Street. They will share information about protecting pets from high temperatures as well as the importance of keeping current photos and your pets microchip records up to date. These are important if your pet gets lost, which often happens during late summer thunderstorms in Northwest Arkansas. They will also have some adorable animals available for adoption, so if you have room in your home and your heart for a new pet, please stop by.

- PUPsicles and featured doggie fashions at Woof & Wander, 107 W Elm Street. Patrons are invited to make donations to support the Rogers Humane Society and Taysia Blue Rescue.
- Showcase of Laura Coello’s work as product and brand designer of Trisha Yearwood Pet Collection, at LBC Studio, 105 W Walnut
- Featured art by artists who specialize in pet portraits, paintings, photography, pet products etc. (See map at www.artonthebricks.com.)
- Doggie Fashion Show under the Bleu Girl Mural by Ozark Talent Bank at 121 W Elm Street, 7:00 p.m.
- Free Pup-Cups and register to win a Petco Pet Store Gift Certificate at Nacho Taters, 300 N 2nd Street
