Regarded as one of the top college running backs of all time, Herschel Walker is a former professional football player for the United States Football League and the National Football League.
He was a awarded the Dial Award for the national high-school scholar-athlete of the year in 1979. He played as a running back for the University of Georgia where he was an All-American and won the Heisman Trophy in 1982. In 1999, he was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame.
Walker holds the pro football record for single-season rushing yards with 2,411 yards. In his 12 NFL seasons, Herschel achieved a total combined net 18,168 yards, ranking him the second among the NFL’s all-time leaders in this category at the time of his retirement. At the beginning of the 2007 season, he was still 8th. He is the only player to gain 4,000 yards three different ways: rushing, receiving, and kickoff returns; and he is one of six players who have exceeded 60 TDs rushing and 20 TDs receiving.
Herschel Walker is also a sixth degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do. He still performs 2,500 sit-ups and 1,500 pushups every morning – a routine he has kept since high school. In 1999 he was elected to Sports Illustrated’s NCAA Football All-Century Team.
Walker states, “Mistakes should be taken as a training tool to help you get better.”
