The return of Arkansas Public Theatre to The Victory Theater and Season 38 marks a significant moment for the community, reviving a beloved tradition in a venue with a rich history. "Into the Woods," the musical chosen for this occasion, promises to captivate audiences with its enchanting tale woven around themes of family, curses, and encounters with iconic storybook characters.

In this production, James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim take everyone's favorite storybook characters and bring them together for a timeless, yet relevant, piece... and a rare modern classic. The Tony Award-winning script and score are both enchanting and touching. The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone's wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results. One of Sondheim's most popular works, Into the Woods is a musically sophisticated show.

The Northwest Arkansas Jazz Society brings their monthly Jazz Jam Session back to Levi’s Gastrolounge & Low Bar this Thursday, March 28. The evening of entertainment is curated by Roby Pantall, a versatile and well-respected guitar player currently residing in Northwest Arkansas.

On March 30th, Ozark Beer Company and Greenhouse Aleworks will be among 24 breweries across the state of Arkansas celebrating Pint Day organized by the Arkansas Brewers Guild. The Pint Day will serve as a fundraiser for the Guild and highlight local taprooms and breweries across the State. This year’s theme is the “Great Arkansas Aleclipse,” and features a commemorative pint glass celebrating the day.

The Music Depot invites you to immerse yourself in a night of warmth and welcome as we present an evening with The Irie Lions, a captivating 4-piece Reggae band hailing from Fayetteville. The Onyx Experience: The venue for this week's meet-up is the esteemed Onyx Coffee Lab located at 101 E Walnut Street, Rogers AR. From 8:45 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 21. Attendees will have the chance to indulge in coffee and conversation while delving into the insights shared by Kimberly Johnson, the District Manager for Onyx Coffee Lab and Hail Fellow Well Met.

Downtown Rogers will move the needle on groove scale as The Music Depot returns to the music scene! The newly renovated live music venue will set the beat at the heart of the city's music scene and once again host an array of musical genres including jazz, blues, rock, Hip-Hop/R&B, soul, funk, and more. After the soft opening in July 2023, Music Depot closed in October for functional renovations to the space.

 

The Jazz and Blues club will reopen in mid-March with new amenities like

• a new vault bar and drink menu,
• new bathroom facilities
• fully accessible facilities.

Art on the Bricks Art Walk is excited to invite the community to attend the Greer Lingle Middle School mixed grade art show coming to Downtown Rogers as part of the March Art on the Bricks Art Walk celebration of Youth Art Month.

By the numbers: Twenty-five students from seventh and eighth grades are displaying their original works of art and attendees are in for a treat. The works on paper will be exhibited from  4:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Thursday, March 14 at Stay True Bike & Barber, 112 W Walnut Street in Downtown Rogers. This is one of more than a dozen pop-up art exhibitions offered during the monthly Art Walk.

Getting their wheels turning: Exhibiting art in a bike/barber shop may be an unconventional venue for experiencing art, but the opportunity to exhibit their art in public allows Greer Lingle Middle School students the opportunity to experience what it might be like to exhibit and sell their art in the future.

March brings an exciting fusion of creativity as crochet and art collide during Art on the Bricks' celebration of National Crochet Month and Youth Art Month, 4:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 14. This vibrant event showcases the intersection of traditional craftsmanship with contemporary artistic expression, highlighting the diverse talents of local artisans and makers, both young and old.

Art on the Bricks invites the community to immerse themselves in a rich tapestry of crochet artistry, where intricate stitches and vibrant colors come together to form stunning works of art. From delicate jewelry to whimsical amigurumi creatures, visitors will have the opportunity to marvel at the intricacy and ingenuity of crochet creations. This month's Art Walk celebrates the essence of Arkansas with the theme "Can’t Help Falling in Love with The Natural State." Experience the natural beauty and scenic wonders that make Northwest Arkansas one of the top 10 places to live in the United States. From biking and hiking trails to mountain ranges, waterfalls, lakes, rivers, and diverse flora and fauna, Arkansas provides a stunning backdrop that inspires the local art scene.

School for Advanced Studies brings an exciting addition to Downtown Rogers and the education landscape in the area. The tuition-free, public charter school will educate Grades 5 - 12 beginning with the 2024-25 school year.

First of it’s kind: The Rogers City Council approved selling an acre of land to the Northwest Arkansas Council Foundation for Arkansas’ inaugural 3D Printed Housing project, aimed at addressing housing affordability.

Groundwork Northwest Arkansas, the foundation’s affordable housing division, will utilize 3D printed concrete technology to construct two-story duplexes at 920 S First Street for community members earning below 80% of the area’s median income. The city sanctioned the land sale at $50,000.

The Rogers Historical Museum presents the upcoming exhibit “A Century of American Glassware.” The
exhibit will be on show in the Collections Gallery from February 17– August 10, 2024.

Two New Downtown Attractions: Downtown Rogers businesses are invited to host either of two new public art installations that will further attract patrons to the Downtown community. Both projects will be published and promoted in news releases, on social media, and on websites inviting people to experience the many amenities in Downtown Rogers. Participants in the January DTR Merchant MeetUp met the artists and had the first opportunity to sign up to be locations for these art installations. 

Four Downtown Rogers business professionals have been named to the Rogers Lowell Chamber’s 2024 Small Business Council. They join this group of community leaders to serve as the voice of the small business community and provide guidance to the Rogers Lowell Chamber. The Small Business Council is comprised of approximately two dozen chamber members who either work for or run small businesses throughout Northwest Arkansas.

Arkansas Arts Academy Dance department presents “Freedom Speaks” under the direction of dance instructor, Mr. Todd Belin. This Black History program will celebrate the contributions of Black people to American History through food, dance, music, spoken word, fashion and more. The goal of this event is to create inclusion, to encourage diversity, and to enhance the motive of arts integration in our school. The event will take place on February 15th 5:30pm - 8:30pm. The program will include performances by students and community artist as well as guest appearances by: Korto Momolu, Celebrity Fashion Designer and Project Runway All Star, Arkansas Gospel Chorale, Cody Davis NAACP Guest Speaker, Drekkia Writes Activist, Poet, Author and our Host Dominique Blake, Olympic Medalist and Entrepreneur

It’s hip to be square: The January Art on the Bricks Art Walk in Downtown Rogers is unlocking emotions with shape psychology in design--with a particular focus on squares. Experience paintings, quilts, mosaics, woodworking, photography and more, many using squares as design elements. Featured artist, R.J. Lawlor, is known for her bold and expressive paintings. Lawlor employs simplicity combined with abstract forms, shapes, and textures to create impactful compositions.

 

Be there AND be square: Paint one of the squares that surround “Whistle Stop” a new community art project -- a four-foot square quilt design painted on wood. Children and adults are invited to participate in a community art-making project from 4:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Thursday, January 11 during Art on the Bricks Art Walk. Mechel Wall, the Benton County coordinator of the Arkansas Quilt Trails, worked with Rogers Lowell Chamber to offer a painting station at Rogers Experimental House. The community is invited to paint the border of the 48” square wood quilt that, once complete, will be installed on an exterior wall of Andora Real Estate, 401 N 2nd Street. The community is invited to begin their tour at Rogers Experimental House, 121 W Walnut Street, and explore several other galleries and pop-up shops as we highlight the beauty of the square.

The Rogers Lowell Chamber launched the Downtown Rogers Merchant Meet-Up to facilitate connections and collaborations among Downtown Rogers (DTR) businesses.

What to expect: Business owners, managers, and staff are invited to this monthly get-together to connect and collaborate over coffee. The news media is invited to join us 8:45 a.m. - 9:45 a.m., Thursday, January 18 at Brick & Mortar, 120 W Walnut Street.

Ozark Beer Company is partnering with a local non-profit to host a Neurodiverse Art Show and artist reception in the second floor gallery above the tap room. The public is invited to attend from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 30. Participating artists will include painters, photographers and other creatives.

The third Thursday of each month the Rogers Lowell Chamber convenes merchant meetings in various locations in Downtown Rogers. Business owners and their teams talk about ways the Chamber can help them grow their business while sharing tips and ideas for our downtown community to collaborate and cultivate continued success.

All the buzz: Ozark Beer Company is hosting their first ever Silent Disco on Friday, December 22nd from 9:30 - 11:30. The taproom, located at 109 N. Arkansas St., Rogers, AR., will be open late for Silent Disco goers to enjoy the nighttime vibes and groovy music from local DJ Afrosia. Along with music, glow-in-the-dark face and body painting will be available from artist Viviana Pagan.

Getting wired: A silent disco is an event where listeners immerse themselves in music through wireless headphones that are synced up to one station or in this case one DJ. The listener is also in control of how loud the music is and can take a break from it at any time.

Rogers Historical Museum is the recipient of the 2023 Southeastern Museums Conference (SEMC) Gold Award for Gallery Installations, Under $1,000 Budget Category. The SEMC Technology Competition recognizes excellence in the use of technology within Southeastern United States museums and celebrates the accomplishments of innovative work.

The award-winning entry is a music interactive included in the museum’s temporary exhibit, “A Parade of Apple Blossoms.” This exhibit highlighted the Apple Blossom Festivals of the 1920s that were a grand celebration of the apple industry in northwest Arkansas. These festivals featured elaborate costumes, Apple Blossom Queen contests, period music, regional tours, and more that turned Rogers and the surrounding area into “A Parade of Apple Blossoms” each spring.

 

The Northwest Arkansas Jazz Society (NAJS) is hosting it’s next Jazz Jam Session at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, December 14 at Levi’s Gastrolounge & Lowbar at 224 S. 2nd Street,  in in Downtown Rogers. The house rhythm section will be the Jake Hertzog Trio, with musicians from the audience sitting in to jam.

Levi’s Gastrolounge has partnered with the NAJS to provide the perfect venue for a monthly jazz jam. Young musicians as well as seasoned pros share the bandstand for an evening of great music and plenty of surprises. This hip, basement bistro serves up great food and drink to complement the music, and it is free and open to all.
