Downtown Rogers’ Redbud Revival

The Redbud Revival initiative to plant Redbud Trees

Beautifying Downtown: In 2009, DTR neighbors initiated a project to plant 22 redbud trees to honor the memory of Cooper Mack. The presence of the neighborhood redbuds signaled new beginnings, hope and love.

  • Cooper, the son of John and Harriet Mack, grew up in Downtown Rogers and was a graduate of Rogers High School.

  • He studied at The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in New York City.

  • Upon graduation, he worked as an architect, and was practicing in London, England, when he was diagnosed with leukemia and lost his battle at age 26.

This initiative has brought joy to residents and visitors of Downtown Rogers for 15 years. The devastation of the May 26, 2024 tornadoes inspired neighbors to revive the effort, this time to beautify even more residential streets throughout Downtown Rogers and beyond. The goal is to help replace the many trees were damaged or destroyed.

Posted by: Karen Wagaman on Wednesday, April 3, 2024

The return of Arkansas Public Theatre to The Victory Theater and Season 38 marks a significant moment for the community, reviving a beloved tradition in a venue with a rich history. "Into the Woods," the musical chosen for this occasion, promises to captivate audiences with its enchanting tale woven around themes of family, curses, and encounters with iconic storybook characters.

In this production, James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim take everyone's favorite storybook characters and bring them together for a timeless, yet relevant, piece... and a rare modern classic. The Tony Award-winning script and score are both enchanting and touching. The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone's wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results. One of Sondheim's most popular works, Into the Woods is a musically sophisticated show.
