Christmas House at 224 W Cherry Street

Each Christmas season, 224 W Cherry Street comes alive with a dazzling, choreographed light and music display that captivates and invites the community to experience the magic of the holidays. Situated at the intersection of S. 3rd St. and W. Cherry Street, this house becomes a holiday beacon with its breathtaking illumination.

Owners Jim and Danielle Bolte dedicate weeks to preparing the display, which runs nightly from Thanksgiving through New Year’s Eve. Showtimes are 5 PM to 9 PM, Monday through Thursday, and 5 PM to 10 PM on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

The spectacle features an impressive 43,000 LED lights controlled by over 300 computerized channels, creating a dynamic, synchronized experience. Despite its grandeur, the light show only increases the Boltes’ electric bill by about $20 a month, thanks to the energy efficiency of flashing LED lights.

Jim has called this 1920s craftsman bungalow-style house home since 1973, when his widowed mother moved there with her three children. Before the Boltes, the house was owned by John Harrison, a banker, and Troy Miller, the former owner of The Bargain Barn, which was located at S. Arkansas and E. Poplar where Railyard Park's Yellow Gantry Crane now stands as a playground structure. Jim’s mother, a dedicated schoolteacher, created a warm and welcoming home, a tradition Jim and Danielle continue with their extraordinary holiday displays.

The Boltes began decorating their home in the mid-1980s and introduced the computerized light show 14 years ago. Their commitment has transformed 224 W Cherry Street into a cherished holiday landmark. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988, and you can find more information about its history on its Wikipedia page.
