KNWA 20th Anniversary

Posted by: Storyteller on Wednesday, September 4, 2024

KNWA marks a milestone this year, as it celebrates its 20th anniversary!

Back to the beginning: KNWA’s on-air debut began August 13th, 2004, after Nexstar Media Group purchased KPOM from Griffin Television.

  • Griffin Television restarted production of local news on NBC affiliate KPOM in 2000.
  • The station retained the main KPOM news anchors, Don Elkins, Deena Day, and Chief Meteorologist, Rick Katzfey. New to the lineup was sports anchor Bo Mattingly.
  • The offices and studio were originally located on the Fayetteville square in the former Campbell-Bell building on South Block Avenue. It wasn’t until 2012, did operations move over to the station’s current building on Dickson.

Making momentum: KNWA’s 20th anniversary is another example of the momentum growing in Northwest Arkansas, as the Chamber continues to build a place where people want to visit, live, invest, work and play.
