April's Workforce Efforts - 2024 K2J Tourism Works

Posted by: Marketing Manager on Friday, May 3, 2024

Workforce Development is a top priority for the Rogers Lowell Chamber in 2024. With over 9,000 open jobs across the NWA region, the Chamber works hard each day to help employers fill these positions and develop the workforce of tomorrow. April had four distinct workforce events devoted to showcasing career pathways to students and helping employers hire to fill jobs.

K2J: Tourism Works

What It Is: In partnership with Destination Rogers and Rogers Public Schools, we hosted over a hundred high school students to discuss career pathways in tourism and hospitality followed by a hiring fair within the industry. Panel discussions included industry leaders discussing career pathways in the areas of food and beverage, entertainment, and lodging.

Why It Matters: Tourism and Hospitality is the second largest employment sector in Arkansas. Growth in this sector was specifically touted as a reason NWA moved up to #7 in the most recent Milken Institute Best Performing Cities list. It is important to show students what options are available in this industry sector. This creates interest and encourages student to pursue these careers to help the industry continue to grow.
