Ozark Beer Company Hosts Neurodiverse Art Show

Posted by: Karen Wagaman on Tuesday, January 9, 2024

Ozark Beer Company is partnering with PerspectAbility, a local non-profit, to host a Neurodiverse Art Show and artist reception in the second floor gallery above the tap room. The public is invited to attend from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 30. Participating artists will include painters, photographers and other creatives.

This mixed media art experience offers a journey alongside some of Northwest Arkansas’s most unique minds. The neurodiverse artists and creators are sharing their works and inspirations in a gallery opening sponsored by Ozark Beer Company.  Works will be on display throught February with an ongoing silent auction. All proceeds from the silent auction go directly to these neurodivergent artists, and a portion of Ozark Beer’s “Drink Beer Do Good” opening night proceeds benefit PerspectAbility’s mission for inclusion.

PerspectAbility is a nonprofit organization that was formed by a group of parents whose children are neuro-diverse. The organization works to educate the public about gaps in opportunities for adults with differences. Their mission is:

  • to bridge the gaps in residential options and continuing education
  • provide quality support for independent living of neurodiverse adults
  • promote self-advocacy
  • educating the public
  • encouraging meaningful interactions within an inclusive community.

Building an inclusive community: PerspectAbility is building an inclusive environment in Northwest Arkansas where neurodiverse adults can choose to live independently, continue their education, experience new opportunities and grown their community.

Why it matters: All parents worry about their children’s future. Most parents raise their children to the best of their ability, then release them out into the world, trusting they’ve become self-sufficient enough to gain independence and live successful, happy lives.

Making a difference: For parents of children with differences, planning for the future looks much different, as their kids are not going to magically stop needing support after they reach a certain chronological age. Once these children reach adulthood, their parents are faced with a daunting challenge – how to ensure their sons and daughters will have, to the best degree possible, what all parents want for their kids: safety, happiness, independence, meaning, belonging, and being known and loved for who they are.

Understanding a new perspective: Why is it important to understand terms like neurodiverse? It is important to understand because society has a significant role to play in how ‘disabling’ an individual’s differences are through the way in which they are perceived. Terminology that is inclusive and considerate of the individual focuses on how to support a need instead of on labeling a disability.
