Downtown Rogers is kicking off National Hispanic Heritage Month with enthusiasm. As the population in northwest Arkansas becomes more diverse, Art on the Bricks strives to represent all members of our community, along with their cultures and their art.
- National Hispanic Heritage Month is September 15 – October 15 and it is significant in Rogers. Fifty-one percent of the population in Rogers is non-white or people of color, and the largest segment of this group is made up of people of Hispanic descent.
- The September Art on the Bricks Art Walk provides an opportunity to connect with and learn about the culture, the art, the music and traditions of our Latino neighbors and friends.
Pop in to the pop up gallery: The exhibit at 105 S 3rd Street is one of more than a dozen pop-up locations participating in the September Art Walk--five of which have art by artist of Hispanic descent.
What’s happening: Arkansas Arts Academy high school students are joining creative members of our community to feature the art and cultures of eight Hispanic countries at a pop-up gallery at 105 S 3rd Street.
- Countries represented include: Mexico, Venezuela, Colombia, El Salvador, Republica Dominicana, Panama, Costa Rica and Honduras.
- Students broke into teams to study the various Hispanic countries and have welcomed community members from each of these countries as part of the learning process.
- This multi-cultural project provides students the opportunity to learn from people from different countries including arts and crafts and artifacts that belongs to women from these countries.
- Students will also display exhibits related to their study of the people, geographic locations, religion, languages as well as celebrities, fashion, and political situations in these countries.
- Attendees will have the opportunity to hear traditional music from Mexico and play Loteria Mexican, a game similar to BINGO and experience the beauty of multiple cultures who have made NWA their home.
