All the buzz: Ozark Beer Company (OBC) is celebrating their first honey harvest with a celebration and work session, 6:00 p.m. - 8 p.m. Thursday, July 6. We are know the folks at OBC are busy as bees, but, did it occur to you they might have their own hive? Ozark Beer Company installed a beehive with the expert assistance of Lauren Anderson, founder of Calm and Confidence Beekeeping in Little Rock. While OBC isn't yet producing product made by their resident bees, they hope to move in that direction in the future.

It isn’t unusual for craft breweries to have varieties of beer made with honey. Both lagers and ales are popular when honey is in the recipe. After all, Mead--a sweet alcoholic beverage fermented with the primary ingredients of honey, yeast and water--is the oldest known alcoholic beverage in world history, predating beer and wine by thousands of years.

Honey beer is a type of specialty beer made by brewing an ale or lager with some honey. But, did it occur to you that Ozark Beer Company might have their own hive to make their own Harvest? Ozark Beer Company installed a beehive with the expert assistance of Lauren Anderson, founder of Calm and Confidence Beekeeping in Little Rock. While OBC isn't yet producing product made by their resident bees, they hope to move in that direction in the future.

Ozark Beer Company co-owner, Lacie Bray, and Anderson previously taught together at Bentonville High School. While the Ozark Beer team didn't have any experience with bees, their close relationship with Anderson made the addition appealing and she continues to check on the bees regularly. And while this is harvest season, the bees are permanent residents in Downtown Rogers. They stay in the hive all year long. They are just are a bit quieter and snuggle a bit closer to keep warm in the winter.

And they are excited to share with their friends the first harvest with a celebration (and work session) set for Thursday, July 6, 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. This is your opportunity to sample locally harvested honey, see how honey is processed from the hive, uncap the comb, crank the extractor, and strain raw honey. Fortunate helpers will even get a free jar of the sweet treasure to take home!
