Earth Friendly Art

April is National Recycling Month and Earth Day is April 22. The April Downtown Rogers Art on the Bricks Art Walk is the perfect time to highlight art that is based on restoration and reuse. We are excited to share the works of than a dozen artists who created art that comes from items that are recycled or repurposed. We are also showcasing the works of dozens of other artists who bring beauty as well as socially and culturally significant messages to the community through art.

Repurposed Art Celebrates Spring, the Season of Renewal and Earth Day: This exhibit was curated by Spectra, an artist group that developed through Fellowship Bible Church of NWA.  The theme this month is “Repurposed: Art that represents unique materials, methods, or perspectives.” You are invited to meet the artists, view or purchase their art, and be an encouragement as the artists seek to serve and inspire.

  2. Arkansas Arts Academy High School, presents “It's EVERYWHERE!” The Arkansas Arts Academy High School 3D Sculpture Class, taught by Carrie Haase, constructed 2D and 3D works of art using cardboard. They were challenged to create a piece with personal significance while exploring techniques that help us see cardboard as a plentiful art medium rather than trash to be recycled. Some students chose to disguise the cardboard with paint while others saw beauty in its natural state.

  3. Additional locations with creations made from repurposed and recycled materials are:

    • Modest Method Designs, 115 W Chestnut St, and
    • Ozark Beer Company, 109 N. Arkansas St.
  4. Life Styles Inc. is Celebrating Abilities during Autism Awareness Month with an exhibition of art in the Rogers Experimental House. Celebrating Abilities consists of landscapes and portraiture taught by artists Roz Waiwaiole and Joelle Storet. The Life Styles art program provides students the opportunity to explore their creative abilities. Students learn fine art skills, to produce beautiful work, and to also communicate their thoughts, feelings, emotions, hopes, and dreams. Life Styles is a non-profit organization that enthusiastically supports individuals with intellectual disabilities in reaching their full potential as contributing members of their community.

  5. The Downtown Rogers Supper Club is back on the Bricks, and the welcome everyone to join them for this walking tour of food, beverages and art. https://www.facebook.com/events/740603874409872/
