Chamber's LEAD Rogers Program Connects Banco Sí to Rogers Public Schools Students

A personal story: Growing up in Puerto Rico, Karinna Rodriguez was interested in becoming a research scientist. She graduated in 2017 from Inter American University of Puerto Rico with a bachelor’s degree in biology with a minor in chemistry. However, in the wake of Hurricane Maria, she moved to Arkansas, where she had family, and joined Signature Bank in 2018. Named business development officer this year, Rodriguez helped lead the formation of Banco Sí, Signature’s Hispanic-centric operation in Rogers.

LEAD Rogers: The LEAD Rogers Program is a strategic support program for underserved and underrepresented students in the Rogers Public High Schools. The goal is to provide opportunities for academic success and to better prepare our youth with the tools, training, and direction in their pursuit of higher education, as well as a clear path to opportunities when the participants enter the job market. The program has been curated to present the students with opportunities that will empower and guide them through the process of building the foundation to achieve their goals. With the support of community businesses and leaders, the Chamber provides guidance in a wide variety of topics, so that students may have a better understanding of how to move forward. We also partner with higher educational institutions that provide specific information to address questions and concerns as needed.

What happened: As part of the LEAD Rogers program, a big priority for the Rogers Lowell Chamber is to bring real-world stories to the table and establish relationships between the current and future leaders of our community. Karinna is the perfect example of a disciplined mind, kind heart and resiliency in difficult times, a powerful combination to accomplish your goals and enjoy a full and happy life serving others. These leadership characteristics are the core principles for the LEAD Rogers program, as we strive to influence the decision-making process of young adults by recognizing and adopting these behaviors. Karinna was very successful at engaging the students while earning their trust and having a meaningful and open conversation. Her presentation included difficult moments in her personal life and how she learned to always look ahead, prioritize what is important and keep her goals top of mind. Karinna also shared her passion for an equitable community with community-oriented business initiatives, the power of working hard and following your heart.

Why it's important: Personal stories have incredible potential to empower, motivate and encourage others. By inviting inspiring leaders to speak in front of the students, we are opening the doors for meaningful relationships for our future generation. It opens a path for learning, mentorships, and career development opportunities.
