Economic Growth Benefits our Quality of Life

Posted by: Justin Freeman on Monday, January 9, 2023

What happened: Rogers ended the year with a new record for annual sales tax collections. The end of the year data shows a total collection over $26.8 million dollars. This breaks the previous record set in 2021 by nearly 13%.

Driving the news: While some of this growth can be attributed to increased costs due to inflation, that doesn’t nearly tell the whole story.

  • Increased retail, restaurant, and recreation options across our community gave more variety for our citizens to enjoy.
  • Factors like robust job and population growth, a full Walmart AMP concert schedule, increased business and recreational travel, and hosting Bikes, Blues and BBQ also contributed to this record year.

What this means: Job growth equates to more money being spent in the community. That money then generates local sales tax.

  • This funds things like city infrastructure, public safety, and quality of life amenities. As we continue to grow both jobs and sales tax, our local economy grows and provides more funding for these much- needed local resources.

Mission-work: Our Economic Development division’s work helps to create a pro-business, pro-growth economic environment. Economic growth is a key driver for increasing the sales tax base.
