Event Description: In this series the student will learn how to: Accurately complete the Form I-9 (Employment Eligibility Verification). Identify federal regulation regarding employment eligibility procedures (CFR Title 8). Determine the ramifications of non-compliance with 8 CFR 274a.1 and 274a.2. Recognize events which do not seem to relate to their company but could lead to business closure. Determine what to do (and not do) if the government imposes an audit or enforcement action. Identify their state's legislative process and law enforcement procedures as they relate to immigration. Assess documentation presented by employees at the time of hire. Locate resources to assist with establishment of employment eligibility. Establish the balance between caution and anti-discrimination in accepting work authorization documents. Shelia Moss has developed years of expertise in Form I-9 compliance. Trained by attorneys, federal government officials, immigration agents, and corporations, she was asked to speak at the Arkansas Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) conference in 2009. Upon the request of Arkansas officials, she provided expert testimony regarding the last immigration bill introduced in the 2009 legislative session. Moss consults with attorneys to defend or settle cases relating to immigration issues between employers and the federal government or professional licensing boards. Her consulting group has a record of success in directing employment eligibility compliance programs for corporations. Moss travels the nation each year training public and private corporations in I-9 compliance and related subjects.
