LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITES

Rogers School Board Opening

The Rogers School Board is seeking a replacement for Jennifer Haskins, a board member who is resigning to move to China. The board will accept applications until close of business Jan. 14. The board plans to appoint Haskins’ replacement Jan. 27. The position, representing Zone 2, will be open again in the September school elections.

Arkansas Philharmonic Board of Directors

The Arkansas Philharmonic Board of Directors meets approximately 4 times a year and once annually. The Development, Marketing, Event, Musicians and Education committees meet as needed. At this time, our board consists of 8 members, an Executive Director who is employed by the Board, and me, currently serving as the President. The following needs are the most urgent:

Our Development Committee is lead by Catherine Brimberry. We are looking for volunteers who have experience in sales and believe in our mission. These committee members will be helpful in networking and speaking with businesses and individuals about the Philharmonic. Those interested will assist in the following capacity:
• Identify individuals to assist with securing “in-kind” donations such as: hotel rooms, printing costs, refreshments for events, graphic design, and travel costs for the conductor. Sell ads to businesses who wish to advertise in our concert brochure.
• Committee meetings to be held on a regular basis in order to delegate responsibility to the Development team and identify new fundraising activities.
• With the assistance of the ED, oversee the development and production of all materials used to support fund-raising activities.
• Develop and implement a corporate sponsorship program; research and identify potential sponsors; prepare proposals and work with Board to identify matches between Orchestra’s program and each company’s interest.
• Prepare grant applications for corporations, foundations, and government agencies that provide arts funding; research all grant possibilities and write reports and back-up materials to support each application; follow up on each proposal.
• Identify a sponsor for an Educational program to be held in Springdale in May 2011.

Our Marketing Committee is lead by Mildred Taylor. Those who serve on this committee will assist Mildred in the following areas:
• Assist the Executive Director in all aspects of the season subscription and annual fund drive including direct mail and electronic advertising.
• Establish and oversee the development of a Group Sales program.
• Assist in maintaining mailing lists.
• Develop a program for communicating the Orchestra’s plans and activities to the media. Work closely with the Executive Director in establishing positive contacts with local media outlets, and conveying an image consistent with the Board’s policies and objectives.
• Distribute brochures and posters in the community concerning upcoming concerts.

Board of Directors: We are committed to developing a strong, active board and welcome your suggestions. Artistically, our resources are very good with Maestro Byess as our Music Director and a team of talented musicians. We continue to make progress organizing and creating processes to improve our efficiency as a team. We do not have a lawyer working with us at this time and need a lawyer to assist us in legal matters and advising for the APO.
