Residential Real Estate and Personal Property Tax

Arkansas does not collect a state property tax, however, cities and counties collect property tax, which is the principal source of revenue for those units of government. In Benton County, assessments are made on all property, real and personal. The assessment on real estate is 20% of the true or market value. Personal property tax assessment is 20% of the usual value of such property.

Income Tax

Arkansas traditionally ranks low in per capita state taxes. State income tax is based on income and levied on residents and non-residents, individuals, estates and trusts. The indexed tax tables are based on the following brackets:

At least Not more than Tax rate
$0 $3,299 1%
$3,300 $6,599 2.5% minus $49.49
$6,600 $9,899 3.5% minus $115.48
$9,900 $16,499 4.5% minus $214.47
$16,500 $27,499 6.0% minus $461.96
$27,500 +   7.0% minus $736.95

If a formula is used to calculate Arkansas income tax, the results must match the above table exactly. The calculations in the table are made at the midpoint of each bracket. For assistance or the latest tax brackets, contact the Arkansas Department of Finance & Administration at www.arkansas.gov/dfa or 501-682-2242.
