NWA Emerging Leaders Board Service Certification Program

The NWAEL Legacy Workgroup has developed a certification for board service to assist emerging leaders in pursuing leadership and service positions, and to create a reputable source for organizations to recruit emerging talent to serve in leadership capacities. The first Board Service Certification program is scheduled for Thursday, March 4 from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Arkansas World Trade Center in Rogers. The program is limited to 35 participants who must be members of NWAEL. Cost for the program is $50 per person.  Click here to register and view the agenda.

NWA Emerging Leaders Sponsorships

Northwest Arkansas Emerging Leaders is now accepting sponsorships for 2010 programs and events. NWAEL currently has 150 members and throughout 2009, attracted 100 to 200 young, bright, emerging professionals to programs. LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITES

One of the reasons for forming the NWA Emerging Leaders program was to link ready, willing and able emerging leaders in our community with opportunities for leadership through public and private boards and commissions and even political office. Please note that the opportunities we share are for leadership positions, rather than opportunities to volunteer. Many worthwhile organizations throughout the community such as the United Way www.unitedwaynwa.org publicize opportunities to volunteer with numerous worthwhile philanthropic organizations. The goal of NWA Emerging Leaders is to apprise of you of opportunities for leadership development and service.  One such opportunities is listed below – watch for additional chances to lead in future email updates.

NWA Emerging Leaders Steering Committee

Interested in taking on a more active role with Northwest Arkansas Emerging Leaders and developing your leadership skills? Contact NWAEL 2010 Chair Paul Wilson to discuss opportunities with the NWAEL Steering Committee. Individuals with an interest in or skill set related to programming and event planning are needed in particular. The NWAEL Steering Committee meets over lunch on the second Tuesday of each month, and Steering Committee members are actively involved in workgroup leadership and NWAEL programs and events.

DOWNTOWN ROGERS

The NWA Emerging Leaders Downtown Workgroup is kicking off the Rogers Downtown Merchants Marketing Speaker Series.  The free classes will focus on new marketing techniques that can be applied to energizing your business. Topics will include branding your business, making the most of email blasts, understanding Twitter, creating websites, and getting the most from your tradeshow booth.  The classes will be held throughout February and March from 8:00 to 9:00 at the Rogers-Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce. GREEN TEAM

Seeking active board members and volunteers interested in working with local communities to help establish, maintain and improve parks, trails and green space throughout Northwest Arkansas. Plans are underway for a project on March 13 with the Illinois River Watershed Partnership to work on multiple sites in buffer zones to plant shrubbery and trees.

The Legacy Workgroup will offer a Board Service Certification program for NWA Emerging Leaders seeking to develop or sharpen their skills for service with civic organizations, public and private boards, commissions, committees and various other leadership capacities. The program will feature a slate of NWA community leaders and panelists. GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS

The Political and Government Affairs Workgroup continues work on a website that will provide voters and political candidates with a centralized location for useful information and links regarding the 2010 primary and general election.  The website should be available for public viewing by the end of February.  A link to the new site will be included on the Emerging Leader’s homepage at www.NWALead.com. On a related note, the winners of the straw poll conducted by the Political and Government Affairs Workgroup at the Emerging Leader’s mixer were:  US Senate – Blanche Lincoln (7 votes), Kim Hendren (7 votes) / Most hated Arkansas rival – Texas (13 votes) / Favorite NW Arkansas City – Fayetteville (13 votes) followed by Rogers with 12 votes.

SUSTAINABILITY

The workgroup will be providing recycling and support for Downtown Bentonville’s First Friday event on May 7th – volunteers are needed to assist at the event. The Workgroup will also tour the Advanced Environmental Recycling Technology facility in late February. The Workgroup will also conduct recycling efforts at NWA Green Drinks at Ruth’s Chris Steak House on Tuesday, February 23 from 5 – 7pm.  Join the Sustainability Workgroup group on LinkedIn to stay in the loop on upcoming projects and workgroup meetings. Future plans include consolidating and disseminating information on recyclables throughout Northwest Arkansas and working with area organizations to increase recycled materials.
